26 December, 2017 White Rock Lake LGBTQ Brunch Wedding
How long have you been together?
Off and on for 8 years
Where do you two live? Tell us a little bit about what you both spend a majority of your time doing.
We live in Dallas, Texas within an hour of where we each grew up! We both work a lot and spend our free time with friends, family, and our two dogs Zola and Shepherd.
What is the first thing you remember about the other when you first met?
Mer: I remember Lauren’s unflappable confidence from day 1. She walked up to me in the foyer of our sorority house at USC and introduced herself because we were both from Texas. Every woman in our sorority wanted to be her (or date her).
L: The night we met, Meredith had her hair half up and was wearing a Juicy hoodie. I’ll never forget the way she looked, or her love for that hoodie.
How did the proposal go down?
Mer: Lauren elaborately planned the proposal around my favorite holiday, Zolaween (yep – my dog’s birthday party). She bent over backwards to get the party ready in advance so I wouldn’t be stressed. Before the party, we walked to a park in our neighborhood where she gave me a sweet book and got down on one knee with our talented friends hiding across the street to take photos! Then we co-opted the dog party into an engagement celebration!
L: A few months after my proposal, Meredith sneakily gave me an engagement ring on a Ferris wheel in Vegas, one of our favorite places to travel together. We celebrated by winning big at the blackjack tables.
Was there a memory from your wedding that sticks out more than others?
M: I barely remember walking down the aisle but I remember seeing Lauren for the first time. She and her jumpsuit looked SO BEAUTIFUL! My other favorite moment is seeing our guy friends charge the dance floor with individual bottles of rose in hand – I couldn’t have asked for a better finale.
L: I was glad Meredith and I didn’t do a first look, it was a special kind of excitement I felt waiting at the alter for her. She was stunning. During the reception, every single member of my extended family in attendance piled in for one big family photo – it was a true test of bridal patience for both of us, but it will be a long-cherished photograph.
What is one piece of advice that you would give to other couples planning their wedding?
Find a venue that speaks to you and let the rest of the planning come together from there… and enjoy some time being engaged before you start planning!
If you could change one thing about your wedding what would it be?
There’s no way to predict or change Texas weather, but we did not expect 95 degrees in November!
Why did you choose the wedding venue/location you did?
We met in California and were tempted to get married there. We wanted beachy vibes and an all-day rosé-filled garden party. The Filter Building on White Rock Lake was the perfect setting to remind us of California but allow us to celebrate in our hometown.
Did you run into any issues with vendors who were not gay friendly?
The only hurdle was finding a wedding officiant! All of our vendors were delightful even when ours was their first gay wedding. We wound up with a fantastic minister who led a ceremony that encompassed our beliefs perfectly.
3 songs that remind you of each other:
Lady Gaga’s entire Fame Monster album
Let’s Stay Together – Al Green
Build Me Up Buttercup – The Foundations
Why’d you choose Steph to document your wedding day?
We’d admired Steph’s work for years and clicked as soon as we met her! We love that she’s a Dallas local who loves mimosas as much as we do and we had so much fun celebrating with her.
